Our Vision
-Since 2016-
At our ranch, we are dedicated to raising premium Hereford cattle through the use of cutting-edge technology and personalized care. By cultivating our own feed crops, we ensure that our cattle receive the best nutrition. This commitment to quality results in high-performing, top-quality stock that meets the highest standards in the industry.
Ron Schock
Owner/Operator
Ron Schock was raised on a ranch and has worked in agriculture and ranching for most of his life. As a teenager, he discovered a passion for cattle while showing in 4H. Ron believes in going the extra mile by investing in quality throughout his ranch, from equipment to facilities and high quality feed, he strives for the best. His hands-on approach has been to start small and take the time to select only the very best stock.

Our Approach
Schock Hereford Ranch combines the latest in genetic testing with some of the finest grazing conditions in the world to produce high-quality purebred polled Herefords. All of the bulls and heifers we purchase, raise and breed have been DNA tested for calving ease, weight gain, and soundness. Our animals are raised for ease of handling, are hormone-free, and are fed on high quality, native North Dakota prairie grass and on hay and alfalfa grown in our own fields. Our foundation stock have all been carefully selected for their high EPD numbers and are derived from world class programs like Churchill Cattle Company in Manhattan, Montana.
High Quality Stock
All Schock Hereford Ranch cattle are genotyped and have undergone DNA testing to rule out undesirable genetic defects, in particular hypotrichosis, dilutor, idiopathic epilepsy, maple syrup urine disease, and mandibulofacial dysostosis. Testing for genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) is a risk management tool that allows us to identify superior animals as yearlings by giving us the ability to determine the predictability of a bull’s performance. This capability translates into higher confidence in our customers’ ability to select high-quality herd sires and replacement heifers. In addition, we keep a closed purebred herd, with vaccine and management protocols that are designed to ensure the animals are free from abortion diseases, fertility disorders and venereal diseases.
